Duty Cycle CMAA Classifications

Pacific Crane & Hoist manufacturers all our cranes and material handling solutions to industry-wide classifications as described by the Crane Manufacturer’s Association of America (CMAA). Our selection of cranes includes all six of the specified classes designed to meet stringent quality requirements. 

Class A Standby or Infrequent Service

Cranes that are on standby or used irregularly to handle loads very precisely, at slow speeds, which rarely hoist the rated load.   

Examples:

Class B Light Service

Includes cranes performing light lifts at slow speeds. Often these cranes are used irregularly with long idle periods between uses.  

Examples:

Class C Moderate

Cranes regularly used in intermittent operation that rarely hoist the rated load, most often handling loads that are 50 percent of the rated capacity.    

Examples:

Class D Heavy Service

Includes cranes that are regularly used in continuous operation. Class D cranes hoist loads between 50 and 65 percent of the rated load frequently.    

Examples:

Class E Severe Service

Includes cranes that can handle 20 or more lifts per hour with loads approaching their rated capacity.     

Examples:

Class F Continuous Severe Service

Refers to cranes capable of continuous operation under severe service conditions.
